Renowned for their giant collaborative zen pop murals, KAMI and SASU’s works combine elegant geometry with ebullient, uplifting colors.

KAMI and SASU have been an inspiration to a generation of Japanese underground artists. Like an eclipse, OMNI by KAMI and SASU collectively known as ‘HITOTZUKI’ (lit: Sun and Moon) was a vibrant celebration of the couples idealistic spirit, held at Backwoods Gallery, Melbourne, Australia in November 2010.

The work has been brought together for the Generations show which will run for a week from Monday 28 February - Sunday 6 March 2011.

Miss Led X Lynx Effect

We have previous blogged about Lynx Excite Fallen Angels campaign, which has seen them working with a number of artists around the UK with a passion for all things winged.  UK street artist Copyright was one of the first artists they worked with producing this video which saw them following the angel loving artist as he traveled the country painting some of his signature angels.

London based  artist / illustrator Miss Led is another angel loving artist Lynx have been working with. The artist has been creating some artwork that will be reproduced on a set of exclusive Lynx T-shirts inspired by the campaign. They also spent the day with Miss Led in her London studio and filmed the artist as she created her work and talked about a recent fall she had herself!

You can read an interview with Miss Led on the Lynx blog here or to find out more about the artist visit her Miss Led website.

Brick Lane in Art: Trailer

Documentary maker Shafiur Rahman began filming in and around the Brick Lane area in the fall of 2009. The above trailer is a teaser of what is to come in this film which is set to be a portrait of a street and the area - as seen by artists, particularly street artists, and others who live and work or even just visit Brick Lane.

"I wanted to shoot a social documentary which would frame the street, its life, and the complex web in which it operates. I wanted to hear the area's "official" stories. And of course the other side of those stories. "

No release date announced as of yet but we look forward to catching the finished film later this year hopefully.

Stanley Donwood — The Outsiders

The Outsiders is proud to present Work on Paper, a solo exhibition by the artist Stanley Donwood. Donwood will showcase a selection of rare print editions and original drawings on paper. Included in this selection are up to 13 brand new exclusive prints, as well as never before seen prints from his most acclaimed series namely ‘Atoms For Peace’, ‘London Views’ and ‘Twisted Woods’.

Interweaving meditative illustrations with propagandist text and graphics, his work’s potency lies in the unique pairing of deeply personal emotions and political themes alongside an inherent sense of reserved wit. This winning combination allows for the examination of grave subjects not entirely seriously but without a doubt respectfully.

Dates: Thursday 17th of February 2011 to Saturday 12th of March 2011

Sesper Solo Show — Pure Evil Gallery

'WHO AM I?' is the title of the upcoming solo show of Sesper at the Pure Evil Gallery.

Brazilian artist Alexandre 'Sesper' Cruz spent his adolescence absorbed in music and skateboarding – building ramps, making fanzines that documented the Sao Paulo art scene, and recording k-7 compilations. These interests influenced the sticker and paste up poster campaigns he launched around the city in 1999.

Sesper is best known for his unique mixed media artwork. He uses recycled material such as paper, cardboard and wood as his surface and paints over these with oil pastel and latex, incorporating layer upon layer of texture and color. A member of the renowned Brazilian art collective, the Famiglia Baglione, Sesper has participated in and filmed many of their live painting and gallery installations around Brazil.

This is the artists first UK solo show and will open on the 17th February and run until the 6th March 2011.

Street Art and Reality

Joe Deane, Joseph Loughborough and Ben Slow paint on Hanbury Street, Brick Lane last year. Ben and Joe paint a piece called "Ma o Shishu" or mother and child from a photograph found in a book about photography and its power to change in South Asia. Their piece changed the street. Everyone who passed - young and old, local or tourist - responded very warmly to it. As did the restaurant owner who owns the wall. But there was another hidden story just behind the painting...of destitution and homelessness in London. 21st century London.

Joseph painted with amazing speed and created two striking pieces one of which lasted only a few weeks before someone decided to make it their private property.

This video is part of a larger project on Brick Lane seen through art and artists that Sixoranges are working on, we look forward to seeing more.

INSA Prints — SF Edition

Upper Playground and FIFTY24SF Gallery have released new San Francisco special edition prints by INSA in conjunction with his ongoing exhibition AT FIFTY24SF Gallery entitled 'MORE'.

The prints are new takes by INSA on the now classic 'Heel' image that began to enter his work in 2004. In the beginning, the image was simply an attempt to depart from the traditional macho driven culture that dominated graffiti - but has since become one of the defining images of INSA's career and has been seen on countless walls in cities across the world.

The San Francisco editions of the prints come in six neon color ways and variations, to coincide with the neon murals that INSA accomplished throughout San Francisco over the last couple weeks. Each print is executed as two colour silkscreens made using solvent based inks on Fabriano 5 300gsm paperstock. The prints measure 20" x 28" and are signed, blind-stamped and numbered by INSA. Each color is limited to an edition of 15 and priced at $150 per print.

The prints are available on Upper Playground's online shop here.

David Bray at Stolen Space

In his upcoming new solo show at Stolen Space Gallery, David Bray is inspired by the record ‘Great Disasters of the Twentieth Century’ by Georg Lubitzer, on which there is a track called 70 days.
“This track inspired me to do a drawing a day for 70 days, whatever style or content of that particular drawing dictated the style or content of the larger drawings - which evolved over the same period of time. Each drawing has a variety of mark making styles within it. The record details the occult, Egyptology, loss, magic and the supernatural - and i have tried to reflect that in the work”
Bray creates delicate and time-consuming drawings which explore emotion, utopia and a world of fantasy through his subject matter of the beautiful and erotic, but the unnatainable female form.

The exhibition opens to the public on the 04 February and then continues until the 27 February 2011. A private view for the ‘Great Disasters of the Twentieth Century’ exhibition is taking place on the 03 February.
