Copyright - American Princess III

Copyright is back with a new print from his American Princess series... with this series of work  Copyright wanted to start over, stripping his work back to being purely about a bold aesthetic and by using the red, white and blue of the American Flag seeing where it took him.

The first two from this series showed the American Dream in all its glory but in the third you start to see a questioning narrative appearing... the notion of liberty at any cost and what that really means.

American Princess III (Liberty) is an edition of just 50, printed onto Somerset Paper with four deckled edges. It is available now here signed and numbered for just £150 and if it is anything like previous editions from this series we don’t expect it will be available for very long...

ŽILDA IN NAPLES Video

“From October 2011 to June 2012, Žilda brings his “Fragiles Fabulae” project to Naples. The parthenopean city becomes a hell inhabited by wounded angels ; who knows what happened to them but what better place could there be to heal their wounds? Eleven paper, oil and acrylic works revisiting and contextualizing paintings dear to the artist; eleven works of an aesthetics of wandering, from dawn to dusk, from uptown to port, from the dark belly to the light-burnt outskirts, a wandering carried along by the furious torpor and the circular energy of the city. Eleven "mises en scène" of a politics of the tragic and of the bodies’ sensuality in the capital of Punchinello, of his comic and ambiguous genius.” — Lubna S.

Jimmy C's 'Usain Bolt' Print

After much anticipation, with many people asking the artist: "Are you going to do it as a print?", street artist Jimmy C has decided to release his iconic 'Bolt' portrait as a fabulous high-quality print.

The portrait of double Olympic sprint champion was created to celebrate the opening of London 2012 Olympic games, and 50 years of Jamaican Independence. Initially painted as a large scale portrait on the wall of an East London car park, its distinctive 'scribble style' was developed by the artist to reflect the inherent energy and vibrancy of Bolt's personality, as well as visually communicate a sense of speed. The piece was quickly picked up by Reuters, BBC, Fox, Sky, CNN, and many other major news channels - quickly becoming one of the most talked about images throughout London 2012.

Jimmy added: "I really don't know how long the mural will last; after many threats from the local authorities to paint over it... so importantly, a print will allow people to enjoy the painting for years to come."

The print itself measures an impressive 56cm x 44.5cm, on textured Minuet Smooth White paper, signed by the artist.

Priced at £40.00
Visit: www.nowayart.co.uk to pre-order the print.

Jaybo Monk - Game Lapse Exhibition

Jaybo explains: ‘Game Lapse is the attempt to respond and communicate between viewer and painter on a common base - the Olympic games - in a very emotional and expressive form, breaking the law of the narrative situation and playing with our primary ideas of movement and time. The quest of this show is to cultivate a kind of improvisation using well-known body parts and geometric shapes and giving them new directions.’

In the most extensive exhibition of Jaybo’s work in London, Game Lapse presents a selection of paintings, drawings and sculptures covering the expanse of the gallery. One floor will feature works on canvas and the other will be filled with drawings; with both housing various sporting antique-themed installations.

Shok-1 New mural 'An Ephemeral Art'

'An Ephemeral Art' Lovely new work from artist Shok-1 in South London. Here is what the artist had to say about the new mural.

"A mayfly with wings of delicate smoke dissipating on the wind represents the ephemerality of most street-based art. Mayflies only live for a day or less just as many beautiful works of art are casually destroyed, often by children or the authorities.

This work also stands as a tribute to all of the art that was destroyed during preparations for the Olympics. Despite being sanctioned and much loved by the community and fans worldwide, many paintings were eradicated or replaced with corporate advertising."

Vinnie Nylon - Poptimism Preview Video

Vinnie Nylon has been involved in the street art and graffiti movement for over 25 years, producing walls, print, paintings, graphics and billboards for a variety of small and international companies and commissioners. Poptimism, will be the artists first solo show in London opening early next month.

This all new body of work is born out of a lifelong collecting obsession, a visual playground in which all of the collected toys and mascots meet head on, a collision designed to level the fields of high and low art. Where old meets new and ultra cute takes on a slightly sinister undertone.

The works on show include vintage petrol cans, sticker art, fanzine and screen print as well as a number of new paintings and mixed media pieces. Trademark bright colours and thick impasto sit beside the more demure offerings of hand finished print and collage pieces.

This show will be a must see, be sure and mark your calendars Saturday 8th September 2012 at High Roller Society Galley in East London.

Sweet Toof Sweet Revenge Exhibition

Having chewed up the streets of London’s east end, Sweet Toof takes a bite out of Hackney Wick again with his mini retrospective exhibition Sweet Revenge.  The show includes a new series of original works plus artwork never seen in the UK before.

Sweet Toof has risen up the ranks as a graffiti artist throughout 80s and 90s, where his letterforms and street styles have evolved alongside a rigorous academic practice as a realist painter and sculptor. Heavily influenced by the Vanitas paintings of sixteenth century Europe, Mexican Day of the Dead, Subway Art, and the underground comics of Vaughn Bodé, his characteristic gummy chompers are a true fusion of street and studio.

Now, the anonymous face that launched a thousand teeth unleashes the beast and charges forward once again—with a fleet of new works and an army of horsemen braced to paint the East End by storm.  It’s a call to arms in the battle for free expression: join forces, or else just grin and bear it.

Daniel Sparks - About Looking at Hamburgers

Galleries Goldstein is proud to present ‘About Looking at Hamburgers’, a new body of work by Daniel Sparkes. This show uses his characteristic fusion of the everyday with the fantastical to unravel man’s difficult, and often flawed, relationship with nature.

Sparkes works in the emerging genre of Comic Abstraction, performing interventions into the mundane fabric of life by injecting it with darkly comic motifs. The quotidian becomes a vehicle for social commentary and critique as Sparkes infuses it with his cartoonish characters that falter uncomfortably in a space between Seuss and Disney. This is achieved through the corruption of found images, where Sparkes makes delicate ink drawings that invest the image with equal amounts of outrage and wonder. His early billboard works around Bristol were comprised of spray-painted appendages to advertisements that unmasked the banal absurdity of consumer culture. Sparkes brings to the surface a certain horror that simmers at the unanalysed subterranean level of culture, adding colour, vision and even magic to grim depictions of people, animals and landscapes.

Opening August 9th, runs until August 18th
Goldsteins at Goodhood - 20 Coronet Street - London - N1 6HD

Bread Collective's THe Walls Have Ears Mural in Hackney Wick

London's Bread Collective have just finished painting their latest project "The Walls have Ears', a 100m long mural in Hackney Wick. Having secured funding from the London Legacy Development Corporation the Bread Collective set about painting the wall on an unloved street, leading to the Olympic Park in East London.

The six-month project involved various workshops, interviews, research and a blog-style website and social media to engage the local community. The mural was all based on what was made in the past in the factories in Hackney Wick and the typographic styling references the old hand painted factory signs and canal boats of the area. Using gold, crystal and diamonds with unnatural colouring, she changes the persona altogether or simply enhances the animals natural beauty. Her concept is to give her audience a fresh outlook on the art of the rearrangement of skin.
