Rook & Raven Gallery opened on Thursday with ‘Nostalgia’, their first show of 2012, featuring an eclectic mix of artwork, games and ephemerae from a diverse collection of artists. The exhibition will feature work by renowned photographer Terry O’Neill as well as works from Stinkfish, Alex Daw, David Shillinglaw, Dave White and DAIN to name a few.
Nostalgia means many different things to many different people – like an emotional heirloom, or perceived antique – personal to only oneself, and both spanning and defining generations. Nothing can explain really what it is that makes something nostalgic, and no one person could ever recount exactly what makes them see something as ‘nostalgia’ – the only thing we do know, is that it makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
With this in mind, Rook & Raven challenged an array of different artists, working in varied media and mediums, to present their definition of the term… or to take you back in time a little. As well as an assortment of artwork from a host of established and emerging painters, collagists and designers, photographers, they will also be featuring a selection of memories and memorabilia, featuring trinkets, games and a soundtrack to accompany the exhibition, curated on the record playing machine by their own resident DJ, Dirty Harry.
The exhibition runs at Rook & Raven until the 25th February 2012.

Very Nearly Almost magazine caught up the The London Police in Amsterdam, when the VNA team went over to interview the duo. This is only crème de la crème of the full chat which can be found in issue 17 of VNA magazine which is available online via the VNA shop here.
Issue 17 also sees VNA chat to the always amusing Goldie about cooking ‘cliffy chicken’, music and his art, alongside Shoreditch shutter bomber Malarky and Mexican miniature maestro, Pablo Delgado. On the international tip, they caught up with Ukraine’s own mural-masters Interesni Kazki, Dutch tattooist Angelique Houtkamp and from the USA, graffer Else ICR and photo-real maestro El Mac.
The exhibition will feature drawings and elements used to create most of the artwork surrounding the album, with high quality signed Giclee prints available to buy as well as a limited edition postcard record made specially for the show. An audio visual installation in the basement, based around the album, will also be present.

Spanish artist's Luzinterruptus sent us an email with images of their latest intervention in Madrid “Deciduous Lampposts”, which is their personal tribute to the autumn that has gone by.
"We love this season, which fills the streets with dry leaves covering the cold asphalt in wonderful orange tones.
But there are streets in Madrid to which, unfortunately, autumn never arrives, they are deprived, with only perrenial leaves, which makes strolling in them like entering into an area with no climatic or seasonal references. In these harsh gray streets we wanted to carry out our installation Deciduous Lampposts."

Vertigo Graffiti is an artistic crew that has brought together eight of the best Colombian graffiti artists and the famous Spaniard street artist El PEZ. Recently, 5 of them (Gris, Cazdos, Skida, Ecksuno and El Pez) painted on a 34 ft fishing boat transforming it into an impressive 100% graffiti piece of art. The boat's name is 'La Preciosa' ('The Precious' in English).
This creation was executed in Taganga, a beautiful and colorful small village in the Caribbean Coast in Colombia. After three days of exhaustive work in 40 degrees weather, the finished boat returned to the sea and can now be found traveling between Santa Marta and Aruba.
Signal Gallery kick off 2012 with their first show of the new year featuring the work of Guy Denning and Frank Rannou. Guy Denning and Frank Rannou are two painters who met in France sometime ago and instantly fell in love with each other's work. Both are fluent and individual figurative painters, with a distinct penchant for the atmospheric portrait.
It was Guy's great wish to introduce Frank's work to UK audiences. Already well established in his native land, with shows in Paris and across France, Rannou had also received much media attention when he was to commissioned to paint the French Rugby Team in 2007, followed by the Football team in 2010.
A well-known figure in the UK art scene now, Guy Denning has shown across the Europe and the US. Recent solo shows in New York and Italy featured the first two parts of a trilogy of shows he has been planning for some time, based on Dante's Inferno. The third part of the trilogy 'Paradiso' will be shown at Signal in the autumn this year. Guy's intense and powerful style has a universal appeal, due to its emotional depth, sincerity and the rarefied beauty of many of his images. In their show together entitled 'We Are All Prostitutes', the two artists have not just chosen to focus on the obvious subject of the exploitation of women through the sex industry, but also the broader concept of how we often compromise our integrity on the altar of want and greed.
The show opens on the 26th January with a private view from 6pm-9pm with the exhibition continuing until the 18th February.

Schade uses his ribbons to compose beautifully intricate images, often referencing popular culture. However, he also creates more thought-provoking works, that resonate with deep and symbolic meaning. Schade has forged a reputation as one of London’s foremost street artists, with his instantly recognisable ribbon motif adorning many walls throughout London and beyond gaining admiration and respect from Private collectors and Artists alike.
