D*Face 'New World Disorder' Exhibition

D*Face, a.k.a the world-renowned urban artist Dean Stockton, presents New World Disorder. The exhibition includes his latest body of work, which reflects upon times of chaos, disorder and loss, as informed by shifting circumstances in the social climate. Exploring topical and longstanding dystopian sentiments, New World Disorder confronts the effects of love and loss from a physical, mental and cultural standpoint, drawing upon the artist’s direct experiences.

The exhibition also includes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the unique nerve centre of D*Face’s working environment by visiting his studio space, situated above the StolenSpace Gallery within the maze of The Old Truman Brewery. This marks the end of an era before the gallery relocates and the adjoining artist studios are demolished.

The opening reception will take place June 6th between 6 and 8pm.

olive47′s bonita bonita exhbition At Breeze Block Gallery

One time London resident and friend of Invisiblemadevisible, American artist olive47 has sent over some images from her solo show Bonita Bonita currently on show at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland.

The title bonita bonita is taken from the catcall olive47 would hear from the local men and the also the compliments heard from the local ladies about her work when painting a series of murals in Mexico earlier this year.

"bonita bonita is a visual Garden of Eden, a place of beauty within a world of turmoil. Drawing on the power of myth for a significant element of its subject matter, bonita bonita applies symbolism and a visual discourse of spirituality in its presentation of a collective narrative of nature and morality in an environment where temptation is ever present."

If you are in the Portland area the exhibition runs until the 1st June 2013.

Daniel Johnston: here Book launch and exhibition at 18 Hewett Street

Protein is proud to present a stunning in-depth photographic study of cult artist and musician Daniel Johnston by NY portrait photographer Jung Kim. DANIEL JOHNSTON: here, is the culmination of five years of intimate collaboration and friendship between the pair, showcasing a selection from thousands of photographs captured on film since the project commenced in 2008.

Protein first came across Jung's work last year when they hosted a hugely successful exhibition of Daniel’s drawings at their gallery - Jung was never far from his side, capturing intimate moments of his personal and prolific professional life, both at home and on the road. Protein will be hosting the London book launch and exhibition at 18 Hewett Street on Thursday 30th May 2013.

The production of DANIEL JOHNSTON: here was funded entirely by Daniel’s fans on Kickstarter, making it one of the most successful crowdfunding photography projects to date. Having spent the last 20 years exposing his heartrending tales of unrequited love, cosmic mishaps and existential torment, Daniel has gained an ever-growing international cult audience. His influence is often cited by both artists and musicians, and his songs have been covered by the likes of Tom Waits, Beck, The Flaming Lips and Spiritualized, to name a few.

All prints, alongside the beautiful photo book, will be on sale throughout the show. Join them for the opening night on Thursday 30th May by submitting your name to billetto.co.uk/danieljohnstonhere, where drinks will be kindly provided by Sailor Jerry. For those that can't make it, the exhibition will be on till 9th June.

It's A Stick Up Book

It's a Stick-Up is the first book to look at an increasingly popular form of street art: the paste-up or 'wheatie'. Many street artists don’t graffiti or stencil any more but use pre-prepared paper images that can be taken down, thereby avoiding a vandalism charge.

The book shows the work of 20 artists, with photographs of their art in situ, a brief profile, and a fold-out paste-up. The fold-out pages are perforated so they can easily be removed. Some of the paste-ups will be laser cut with attaching tags so they can be popped out. There's also an introductory interview with cult street artists Sten & Lex.

Featuring the work of Paul Insect, Ludo , Morley,A.CE,Monsieur Qui, Pure Evil, Dain, WK Interact, EMA,Pablo Delgado, Kid Acne, SHN, Cake, Specter, BR1, Feral, Elbow Toe, Dale Grimshaw.

The book is available now in major bookshops and online here on Amazon .

The Vice Illustration Show at Pure Evil Gallery

You know how Vice sometimes accompany their articles with pictures people have drawn rather than photographs? Those pictures have a technical name that you probably won't have heard before unless you went to some pompous Viennese art school: illustrations.

Vice Magazine like illustrations because you can do all sorts of things with them that you can't do with a photo, like have chipmunks blast Ted Nugent with semen or catch Alex Salmond riding shotgun with a murderous Mel Gibson. And because they like them so much they're holding an exhibition of work from some of their favourite illustrators.

The exhibition is going to include a selection of new prints, work that's been featured in VICE and original drawings especially for the show, which are designed to give an insight into how the people who do drawings for us go about doing their drawings. Those people are (deep breath) Johnny Ryan, Daniel David Freeman, Kyle Platts, Cei Willis, Nick Gazin, Craig Questions, Jonny Negron, Sam Taylor, Malin Bergstrom and Krent Able.

Show opens 17/05/13 - 02/06/13
Pure Evil Gallery - 108 Leonard Street - EC2A 4XS London

Pipe Dreams - Jo Peel 2013

This animation follows the journey of a piece of paper which was scrumpled up and thrown away. As this paper falls, it becomes a small part of the many other neglected ideas and the debris piles up. This story follows the paper and the abandoned idea.

The largest mural in the UK to be painted by an individual artist, the animation was made using a 5 story building, a shipping container and a double decker bus as a canvas. During the coldest March in 50 years, Jo Peel and her dedicated team spent one month battling snow blizzards and icy winds to paint and record the animation frame by frame and create a 3 minute film.

Animation & Direction: Jo Peel
Producer: Jo Peel & Alternative London Production
Manager: Jonathan Robson
Camera Operators: Jade Brassett, Sanne Winderickx, Adam McGee Abe
Art Assistants: Jade Brassett, Tamara Venn, Sam McClean, Darius Bielecki, Lara Hamadi

CARTRAIN: This Way Up Solo Show

Notorious offender of all things art Cartrain returns with a provocative solo show THIS WAY UP. At age 20, Cartrain has been painting his iconic street art on the streets of London since he was 14. His artwork is collected by everyone from the rich & famous to the police officers and judges. In 2008 Damien Hirst attempted to prosecute Cartrain for creating a series of artworks that "infringed" Hirst's copyright. In 2009 Cartrain responded by "borrowing" a packet of pencils from Hirst's "Pharmacy" installation at Tate Britain. Cartrain was later arrested for theft valuing £500,000. His satirical images have been parodied by Royal Mail and influential artists including Mr Brainwash, Gilbert and George, Jamie Reid, and James Cauty. In 2012 Cartrain walked into the House's of Parliament and smoked a spliff during Prime Ministers Questions.

From the east London streets to the markets of Portobello Road Cartrain has left his mark on the city of London. This Way Up is a glimpse into the insights of an urban art legend. Pop culture, conceptual guerrilla performance, and collage based urban memes all play a part in Cartrain's palette. You never know what you expect when Cartrain's is involved.

Open 17th May - 30th May

Jason Brooks' illustrated guide to Paris

Paris Sketchbook is a stunning gift book from leading international fashion illustrator Jason Brooks. Although he is best known for his beautiful fashion imagery, which has regularly graced the pages of Vogue and Elle magazines, travel has been a recurrent theme in his work and his adventures continue to inspire and inform his visual repertoire.

During his time on fashion assignments at the Couture shows in Paris, Brooks developed a fascination for the city, drawing and painting beautiful travel journals that demonstrate his passion for all things Parisian.

This book is a whimsical take on Paris, part guide book, part illustrated journal, it will appeal to both travellers and fashionistas. Sumptuous production with different stocks and inks will make this a must for anyone who loves fashion illustration and beautiful books.

Elinor Evans solo show 'Picasso's Pack'

It is only fitting that Elinor Evans’ muse should be her loyal Dalmatian Picasso. He has appeared in many of her works over the years, his benign presence seemingly a calming force in the compositions. In her new solo show at Signal Gallery, she has taken this a step further and developed a distinctly canine theme and called the show Picasso’s Pack.

Since her student days at The Royal College of Art, Elinor has made a point of covering the faces of her human figures with mysterious animal masks. The identity and expressions of these characters are always concealed, leaving us with a distinctly sinister impression of their intensions. In the new show, Picasso’s Pack, all the masks are made by the artist herself and all are of wolves or jackals.

Elinor has shown extensively in London, in her native Wales and in Spain where she now lives. Her work is to be found in the collections of a number of important collectors. She has won a number of prestigious awards, including Fine Art Award at the National Eisteddfod in Wales. This will be her second solo show at Signal Gallery.

'It's All Fun & Games Until Someone Gets Hurt' By The London Police

'The London Police,' are back in East London for their first solo art show in England since 2009.

This time around, the Amsterdam based lads have themed their show around sports and games... And although they have totally mistimed their sterling effort of jumping on the Olympic bandwagon, the Essex born duo have produced a slick show of considered artworks and designer sport products.

For inspiration, TLP have leaned on the memories of their athletic exploits growing up: The times when a pool cue was for the pursuit of sporting excellence not for finding someone who owed you money and whacking them around the face. The days when a cricket bat was for hitting sixes into Mrs. Norrington's back garden before you smacked a ball through your mum's greenhouse, blamed it on your brother, and had to wait for Dad to come home to give you both a couple of wallops with a rolled up Daily Mail...Aaaaah, sport. Memories.

Alongside canvas originals, TLP has produced an exclusive range of limited edition, designer pool cues and hand drawn cricket bats. The games theme continues with a unique painted vintage Monopoly board and photography from TLP's city-wide Monopoly Street Art installations in London. Attendees at the private view will also have a chance to try their hand at a lucky dip and win prizes by competing on a handmade, wooden, ball-bearing maze game. Four of these very limited edition games will also be for sale. After a serious injury involving a finger and a wood saw, production of these maze games (and the aforesaid mentioned finger) were 'cut short' so to speak...as they say, It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt...

Private View 9th May 2013.
The show runs until the 26th May 2013.
